More than 2,500 hydropower and dam-related professionals from more than 65 countries participated in HydroVision 2008 in Sacramento, California, July 14 - 18, 2008. The conference allowed delegates to share experiences and expertise, consider emerging ideas and opportunities, and compare best practices and successful strategies with colleagues from around the world.

Eight program tracks gave conference delegates the chance to learn about a broad range of issues and trends affecting hydropower: asset management, structures and safety, new development, ocean and kinetic power, operations and maintenance, policies and regulations, and water resources. A number of speakers have provided a copy of their presentation to be posted on-line. Click here to view available Conference Presentations.

Dr. David Victor, Professor of law at Stanford University and Director of the Energy and Sustainable Development Program for Stanford's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, began the conference with a compelling keynote address. Dr. Victor spoke about specific challenges to hydropower in addressing policy issues in the future and outlined key factors hydropower must address to make an important contribution to sustainability and clean electricity.

Nearly 370 authors from around the world drafted technical papers for HydroVision 2008. A CD-Rom is available that contains the 153 papers developed exclusively for the conference. Technical papers focus on issues underlying new technology in operations and maintenance, research and development, small hydro, ocean and tidal power, and more.

A number of workshops and professional meetings were also held prior to the conference. These offered conference goers even more opportunities to learn about issues of most importance to them. Topics included pumped storage, climate change, asset management, business networking and much more. Technical plant tours both before and after were well attended.

Delegates could also visit with more than 270 companies who participated in the HydroVision Exhibit Hall to share the latest hydro-related product and service innovations.

Thank you to all who joined us for one of the best HydroVision conferences ever. We appreciate your support and participation.
